Components
VectaStar Gigabit mobile wireless backhaul deployments are customised to individual requirements using our state-of-the-art components.
These include:
VectaStar Gigabit varies from single sector outdoor-only deployments to multi-sector protected (i.e. redundant) hubs with an RC providing a single interface into the core network.
In all scenarios, traffic from the network edge (e.g. NodeB, WiMAX BS) is backhauled by the connected RT to the sector AP.
Within each sector, bandwidth is statistically multiplexed across multiple RTs in accordance with operator-defined quality of service parameters.
This dynamic allocation avoids the wastage of spectrum associated with other technologies and in the case of multi-sector hub installations; all traffic is aggregated in the RC before transmission to the core.
Access Point (AP)
The VectaStar Gigabit ODU AP is an integrated radio, modem and network interface unit, which connects directly to a sector antenna.
An ODU AP can operate a single sector without any additional indoor equipment (zero-footprint mode), backhauling traffic from up to eight RTs and terminating it on a single Gigabit Ethernet interface.
The AP offers full duplex 150Mbps net Ethernet throughput per sector.
Where more than eight RTs per AP are required, a 1U rack mountable RC unit can be used to support up to 30 RTs per AP.
Remote Terminal (RT)
VectaStar Gigabit ODU RTs offer class-leading full duplex throughput up to the available sector capacity of 150Mbps net (at 256QAM in a 28MHz channel).
Power and data are coupled onto a single CAT-5e cable by a Gigabit Power Injector unit.
TDM E1 support is provided by use of a 4xE1 Indoor Unit at the RT.
Radio Controller (RC)
The VectaStar RC is a high-capacity Ethernet hub that extends the feature set of its VectaStar Gigabit microwave multipoint system.
The RC is a flexible, high capacity platform incorporating programmable high speed logic allowing software upgradability for future performance enhancements and support of current and new network standards.
All traffic interfaces are Small Form-Factor Pluggable (SFP) - based providing maximum interface flexibility.
Only 1U in size, the rack-mounted Radio Controller is based on a Gigabit Ethernet backplane supporting up to 10Gbps sustained operation between any set ports.
A VectaStar Gigabit Access Point on its own supports up to eight Remote Terminals per sector, use of the Radio Controller increases this capacity up to 30 Terminals per sector.
The RC supports up to eight APs and can therefore aggregate traffic from up to 240 Remote Terminals, at one hub, onto one or more interfaces connected to the core network.
Two SFP+ 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GE) ports are also provided for core network interconnection since the total aggregate rate from a full set of sectors may exceed 1Gbps.
A key feature is a 2+0 protected sector capability that permits the simultaneous operation of two access points in a sector – thereby increasing the sector capacity of a VectaStar system to 300Mbps.
The platform is software upgradable.
VectaStar Network Management System (VNMS)
The VNMS runs on carrier-class server hardware allowing for rapid deployment, efficient supervision and consistent management of a VectaStar network.
The VNMS provides core FCAPS functionality, in accordance with ITU-T standards and gives:
- A scalable, flexible and robust management system
- A comprehensive suite of software tools and applications to configure a VectaStar network.
VectaStar can be used to build a variety of mobile wireless backhaul and access networks quickly.
It works with what you have now and anything that you might be thinking about deploying in the future.
