Test Engineer

Summary

Location: Cambridge, UK

Responsible for carrying out full software test and verification of the VectaStar product range, with particular focus on real world network testing.

Key responsibilities and tasks

• Test each new software release according to the level identified by prior discussion with Engineering/Head of Test group
• Regression testing of software releases
• Identify bugs and feature enhancement as required, and accurately input them to the bug tracking database (Trac)
• Liaise closely with the engineering team to aid timely and accurate resolution of bugs
• Build and maintain test fixtures using components of the VectaStar system
• Record results based on commercially available test equipment and in house test equipment and software
• Assist with replication of customer affecting issues
• Assist with the setup and execution of Type Approval Testing (RF, EMC and Safety).

   

Competencies

Essential

• HNC in IT/Telecomms/Electronics based subject.
• Knowledge of IP Based Networking
• Knowledge of UNIX (especially Linux) and Windows OS
• Personable and a team player
• Identifies tasks and manages workload to meet deadlines
• Able to communicate effectively with other Engineers on a technical level
• Methodical and organised.
   

Desirable

• Degree in IT/Telecomms/Electronics based subject, CCNA and above
• Knowledge of TCP/IP and TDM networks
• Knowledge of E1, GSM and 3G networks
• Theoretical and practical experience with microwave radio systems and test equipment
• Practical electronics skills
• Electronics knowledge
• Knowledge of scripting in languages such as Python, Perl and JAVA
• Cisco Systems (IOS)
• Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
